Centipedes are the only arthropods known to have poison claws which allows them to attack their prey and defend themselves against predators and other natural enemies. Their venom is not normally life endangering to humans, although a bite from one can be painful.
They prefer dark, damp environments and are found under leaves, bark, and logs or in your basement. They are most active at night unless disturbed from their hiding places.
Centipedes can live for several years, can regenerate lost legs and even add leg pairs as they develop.
